Choral Society Rehearsals for the spring 2011 concert begin Tuesday, January 4, and run from 7:30-9:30 pm in Room 100 of the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St. Registration begins at 6:30 pm. New and returning members are welcome!
The Choral Society of Greensboro was organized in 1983 by Barry Auman, Richard Cox, Sam Doyle, Eleanor Nesbit, and others in the Greensboro musical community. David Pegg was the first director and Bill Carroll led the Choral Society from 1984 through the 1999 season. Sam Doyle and Carol Burnett led the 1999-2000 season and Bill Young was the director for the 2000-2007 season. Bruce Kiesling became the Musical Director in 2007. 

The Choral Society was formed to provide an opportunity for volunteer singers to perform masterworks for chorus and orchestra. In recent years, the Choral Society has included in its repertoire a wide variety of choral literature ranging from the Requiem settings of Verdi, Mozart and Berlioz to a Black History Month Concert and an All Gershwin Evening. Other performances include Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn's Mass in Time of War, Bruckner's Te Deum, Beethoven's Symphony # 9 and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms.

With more than 140 volunteer singers, the chorus is open, without audition, to anyone in the community.

Three to four Choral Society concerts are scheduled during the regular season as stand alone concerts and alongside the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and other professional organizations. The Choral Society also performs at various civic gatherings.
