GYC Basics
Mission Statement:Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) exists to develop leadership and volunteer opportunities for Guilford County high school students through the planning and implementation of unique youth-run programs that benefit and serve the community.
Who:
GYC is a division of the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department.
What: GYC exists to provide Guilford County high school youth the opportunity to come together to learn leadership skills and responsibility, meet new friends, and have fun while volunteering for projects that serve the community.
When: GYC has projects and opportunities to volunteer year-round. GYC Full Council meetings are held every other Thursday from 6:30-7:45 pm. Please check the GYC Calendar page for dates.

Founded in 1962, GYC was the first organization of its kind in the nation.

GYC was cited as a reason for Greensboro’s recognition as an "All America City" in 1991.

In 2007-2008 high school students volunteered more than 13,700 hours of community service through GYC. One volunteer hour is valued at $19.51, which means GYC volunteers gave back to the community more than $267,000 worth of service.

GYC teaches high school students leadership development, the importance of volunteering for life, and serving our community.

GYC’s Executive Board is made up of high school students from High Point, Greensboro, and Jamestown.
