GYC Trainings
The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) offers trainings to expose Guilford County high school students to areas that will make them better individuals and community leaders. Classes are offered to any interested high school or home-school student in Guilford County. Below are the times and dates for training offered for the 2010-2011 year. For those who are GYC council members, training counts as double volunteer hours.
Fall 2010 Trainings:
- Big Sweep: Saturday, September 25, 9:30 am-12 noon
- Jail Tour: Thursday, October 28, 10-11 am **
- Cooking Training: Wednesday, November 11, time TBA **
- Sexual Attitudes: Saturday, November 20, 10 am-12 noon*
Spring 2011 Trainings:
- Sexual Attitudes: TBA **
- Cooking Training: Tuesday, March 29, time TBA **
- Big Sweep: Saturday, April 2, 10 am-12 noon
- Jail Tour: Monday, April 18, 10-11 am **
Community Training for Youth
Many organizations in the community offer training for youth. If students attend the training below and have the training facilitator sign off, they can receive volunteer hours toward the Greensboro Youth Council.
- Mellow Mondays: A series of open mic programs for teens that are interested in sharing their poetry, rhymes, songs and stories with their peers and the community.
- McGirt-Horton Libray, 5:30-7:30 pm, contact Ricky Baker at 373-5810 for more information
- GTCC Cosmetology Careers: An informative session with cosmetology chairperson/professor Morris Boswell, as he talks about the cosmetology program at GTCC. This is a great program for high school students that are interested in being barbers and cosmetologists.

- Teen Art Studio: In January and February, we will be creating altered books, all materials are provided, registration is required. Altered book art combines several types of artistic techniques. Starting with a book base, the artist adds their own creative expressions through cutting, stamping, collage, writing and adding objects.

- Future Cents (free financial workshops for teens)

**These training events require registration due to a limited number of spaces available. Please use the e-mail link below to register. Be sure to include the student's name, phone, and training of interest. Registration for training will occur the week prior to the training.
