Program Description: MainStream Resources offers quality recreational programs and special events for people who have been identified as having special needs, including mental, physical and visual. Activities in these programs are modified or special equipment is available to assist the participant.

Some of these programs are suggested for certain age groups and disability classifications so the program can be geared to meet specific needs. However, we will make reasonable accommodations for any individual who wants to participate in a program not suggested for his or her age group or disability. The request must be made at least two weeks prior to beginning of the program. We also encourage family and friends to participate in our programs when space is available.

The City shares the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protects qualified individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disabilities and provides for equality of opportunity in the services, programs, activities and employment of the City.

Staff also works with participants to help them participate in programs not specifically designed for special populations and offered by other divisions within the Parks and Recreation Department. In addition to offering recreational programs, MainStream Resources provides leisure education and counseling to participants with special needs. Participants have opportunities to select activities of interest to them from programs offered by the MainStream Resources Unit or other organizations.

MainStream Resources operates with a fee/other charges schedule, based on cost of supplies, equipment, transportation, staff and other professional services. Selected MainStream Resources programs offer transportation for individuals who live within the city limits (not all programs provide transportation).

For more information, or for a current list of activities, call MainStream Resources at 373-2735, 373-2954 or 373-2626.
