The Greensboro Planning Board studies the needs and resources of Greensboro and plans for its appropriate development. This includes reviewing the text of the Development Ordinance and advising City Council on measures related to annexations and comprehensive planning. The Board also recommends the Neighborhood Small Projects and Community Development Program to the Council.

The Planning Board is composed of nine citizen members appointed by City Council for three-year terms. Regular meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 2 pm in the Council Chamber of the Melvin Municipal Office Building.
