Tree Canopy Study Released
GREENSBORO, NC -- (June 11, 2009) -- The final report from a study of area tree coverage, conducted by the City of Greensboro and Guilford County, is now available for public review. Information from the report will allow municipalities and the County to develop management strategies to maintain a sustainable tree canopy for the future.
Funded by a recent state grant to conduct this tree canopy study, the City and County contracted with North Carolina State University's Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources to analyze high resolution aerial photography of area tree coverage. Data produced was stored in a Geographic Information System and used to develop a baseline inventory of the area's existing tree canopy.

(The grant was awarded through the Urban and Community Forestry Grant program which is administered by the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources, in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service, Southern Region.)
