downtown festival of lightsAs part of the Comprehensive Planning Division, Urban Design is closely related to many long range planning efforts. Connections 2025 encourages new development to enhance the existing urban character while promoting infill development and reinvestment throughout the city.

By advocating for high quality reinvestment in specific locations such as East Greensboro and downtown, the Comprehensive Plan works to maintain the viability of urban areas. Some of the goals of Connections 2025 are to:

          • Promote sound investment in Greensboro's urban areas, including Center City, commercial and industrial areas, and neighborhoods
          • Promote reinvestment, preservation, diversification, and selective intensification of activity in Downtown Greensboro, to reinforce its importance as the economic, cultural and civic center of the City while protecting its heritage and historic resources and enhancing its urban character

          • Preserve and enhance the character and visual quality of Greensboro's built environment, including historic sites, private developments, and public landscapes
          • Promote new patterns and intensities of use to increase economic competitiveness and enhance quality of life in urban areas
