Public Art
Public Art Exists All Over Greensboro (map)Connections 2025, Greensboro's adopted comprehensive plan, encourages the use of public art throughout the city. In June 2009, Greensboro City Council adopted an Action Plan for Public Art. From gateway signage to our public buildings, public art may be an integral design element to some of our most prominent public projects.
Public art can be found in gardens, murals within our libraries, and even on our buildings. It helps to strengthen our collective community identity, and it:
- encourages community dialogue
- enhances visual character
- brings art to our daily lives
- enhances community pride
- enhances our sense of place
Greensboro is a giving community in which many of our public artworks are administered privately. Currently, public art is administered by individual artists, arts organizations, arts champions and through the City's library and parks and recreation departments. Although many of our works are privately held, they exist all over the city for the enjoyment of the community to inspire, appreciate and beautify.
