Gang Enforcement Unit Mission
In response to the increase in gang related activity within our jurisdiction, the Greensboro Police Department has established a Gang Enforcement Unit within the Investigative Support Division designed to target criminal gangs and related crimes. This unit is currently comprised of 15 tenured police officers whose efforts will be dedicated solely to criminal gangs and their associates. We recognize that criminal gangs have been in existence for many years and are increasingly responsible for serious crimes against persons. We also realize that many of the activities associated with criminal gangs include intimidation and exploitation, usually of our juvenile and elderly citizens. We have seen this increase in our City and are taking appropriate steps to combat it.
The Gang Enforcement Unit, while still developing, has established its goals for this first operational period. We have many partners in this endeavor, not the least of which are the citizens of Greensboro. As we live and work in this community, we desire the same for our citizens as we would have for ourselves; a community safe from the fear and crime associated with criminal gangs.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Greensboro Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Unit is to reduce crime and related activities perpetrated by identified criminal gangs through a comprehensive application of enforcement activities while supporting the prevention and intervention efforts of the greater community. This will be accomplished fairly and respectfully in accordance with our core values, guiding principles, and while supporting the Department’s stated goals and objectives.
