Crime Stoppers Program Nominated for Award -- The Greensboro Police Department’s Crime Stoppers program has been nominated for the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, which honors individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America. Created in 1990, the award is given annually by the director of the FBI. The winner is announced in August. 

Balloons from the National Night OutNational Night Out Kick-Off -- The 2009 National Night Out city-wide kick-off was held on Tuesday, June 30, at the First Baptist Church. For information on how to participate in the August 4 event, contact GPD's Office of Community Affairs at 373-2636.

Crime Stoppers Wins Award --
GPD's Crime Stoppers program won the productivity award for the most arrests and largest amount of drugs and property recovered in the southeastern United States during 2008. This is the eighth time the department has won the award.

Memorial Week -- Peace Officers' Memorial Week was designed to honor the dedicated men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Greensboro Police Department honors its 10 fallen heroes with a variety of community events to recognize those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and to celebrate the accomplishments of our officers and residents who have gone beyond the call of duty.

Harassing Phone Calls -- Obscene or harassing phone calls can be one of the most stressful and frightening invasions of privacy a person experiences. Unwanted phone calls, while a minor problem when compared with threatening calls, can still be a major inconvenience. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help put an end to these unwelcome intrusions.

Greensboro Community Watch -- Greensboro Community Watch (GCW) was designed to improve communication between the various community watches throughout the city. By joining the GCW you will stay up-to-date with what is taking place around the area. It will help to provide information to residents that could potentially keep them from becoming victims of crime.

Chief Bellamy Selected for FBI National Executive Institute -- Congratulations to Police Chief Tim Bellamy on his selection to the FBI National Executive Institute (NEI). The NEI is a three-week executive training program offered to chief executives of the largest law enforcement agencies in the US, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Bellamy is only the second police chief from North Carolina to be chosen for this prestigious program. As part of his training, Bellamy will visit Fredericksburg, Va., Sydney, Australia, and Gettysburg, Pa. All expenses will be paid by the NEI.  

News Conference -- Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy held a news conference  to unveil a 12-point strategy to combat gun violence in the city.

Congratulations to the 89th PBIC
Congratulations to the Greensboro Police Department's (GPD) 89th recruit class for the successful completion of basic training. Graduation was held Thursday, February 19, at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown. Watch part 1 and part 2 of the graduation online.

The 29 cadets underwent intensive law enforcement training in preparation for assuming their role as officers with GPD. Following graduation, they will be assigned to various patrol divisions and will work with a police training officer for the next 14 weeks. Each cadet must successfully pass the Field Training phase in order to begin patrolling on their own. Join us in welcoming them to our city!
