Frequently Asked Questions
What is Channel 13 and who can watch it? Channel 13 is the City of Greensboro government television station. A service of the Department of Public Affairs, Channel 13 is available to subscribers of Time-Warner Cable in Greensboro and wherever Time-Warner offers service in Guilford County, with the exception of the City of High Point. (The City of High Point has its own channel.)
I live in Guilford County, but not in Greensboro. Can I still watch Channel 13? The answer is yes and no. You may have access to the Guilford County Commissioners meetings but you may not have access to other Channel 13 programming. The Guilford County Commissioners have made a special arrangement to have their meetings televised in Guilford County. How is it funded? Channel 13 is funded solely from revenue generated through the franchise agreement with Time-Warner Cable. Channel 13 is not funded by City taxes.
What does Channel 13 do? Channel 13 seeks to keep citizens informed by producing programs about City government and its services. It also provides live coverage of Greensboro City Council, and the Greensboro Zoning Commission. Through an arrangement fee, Channel 13 also provides live coverage of Guilford County Commission meetings. These meetings are replayed in their entirety on a schedule from the day the meeting airs live through the following weekend.
Can I get my announcement on Channel 13? Channel 13 can only air City-sponsored events or programs. If your event is not sponsored or co-sponsored by a City department or division, it cannot be aired on Channel 13. However, public announcements are aired on Greensboro's public access station, Greensboro Community Television (GCTV). GCTV is not affiliated with Channel 13.
How do I request a copy of a video? Call (336) 333-6922 to request a copy of a video for a nominal fee of $5 per tape or DVD. Multiple requests for shorter programs will be combined (if possible) onto one tape or DVD. For example, the entire Drive to Survive series can be combined on one tape or DVD for $5. Each DVD can hold two hours' worth of programming; meetings lasting longer than two hours must be copied onto additional DVDs. If a meeting lasts four hours, the cost for copies would be $10 since it would be copied onto two DVDs.
