The Director has full management responsibility for all Department services and activities, including review of discrimination cases, research on human relations, and enforcement of anti-discrimination laws in employment, housing, and public accommodations. The Director also conducts the daily business of the Human Relations Commission and is responsible for coordinating the City’s effort to eliminate discrimination and to create improved relationships among all racial and ethnic groups.

The Administrator assists the Director in developing and recommending programs and policies and providing staff support for appointed subcommittees and task forces. The Administrator also provides multicultural training for neighborhoods and community organizations and provides staff support for the Human Relations Commission’s Complaint Review Committee when addressing citizens allegations of police misconduct.

The Administrator is responsible for coordinating and implementing program activities that support the mission and initiatives of the Human Relations Department. The Administrator serves as an ambassador for the Department with local civic groups and non-profit organizations. The Administrator researches, compiles, and analyzes data to make recommendations to the Director. The Administrator works with other Departmental divisions and staff to ensure that Departmental goals are reached in a timely manner. The Administrator is responsible for developing a strategic plan for the Department and will assist the Human Relations Department Director and staff with its implementation and evaluation.

Fair Housing Specialist

The Fair Housing Specialist administers the fair housing program and receives and investigates housing discrimination complaints. The Fair Housing Specialist also provides training, outreach, and education to housing providers, the Human Relations Commission, the Commission on the Status of Women, and other interested agencies and groups.

The Administrative Services Coordinator works with the Director and provides research assistance to the Human Relations Commission, the Commission on the Status of Women, and departmental staff. The Administrative Services Coordinator also assists with the departmental budget and processing fair housing complaints under HUD guidelines.

The Executive Assistant provides administrative management and support to department staff and executive secretarial support to the Human Relations Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women. The Executive Assistant also provides information on department and commissions’ activities to City Council and the general public.

The Administrative Assistant provides administrative management and support to the Commission on the Status of Women Administrator and the 15-member Commission on the Status of Women. The Administrative Assistant also coordinates division activities with the commission chair, sub-committees, Human Relations Department, other City departments, and community organizations, and provides information on CSW activities to the City Council and the public.
