Student Human Relations Commission (SHRC) The Student Human Relations Commission (SHRC), an extension of the City of Greensboro Human Relations Commission, is a joint effort between the City and Guilford County School System.
The purpose of SHRC is to integrate human relations into the culture of each Guilford County high school. SHRC activities are intended to promote a better school climate and educational system by providing students with the necessary leadership skills to identify, raise awareness, plan, and take action on intergroup challenges facing the school community.
The SHRC is a program that promotes dialogue and interaction among all Guilford County high school students. SHRC:
- Analyzes human relations concerns in schools
- Provides a platform for action- and solutions-oriented dialogue
- Forms collaboratively to identify and raise awareness on challenges facing the school community
- Campaigns for peace and respect for all regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, immigration status, language, national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
SHRC members:
- Receive leadership training on human relations principles
- Develop leadership skills
- Promote sustained dialogue among students, teachers, parents, and school administrators
- Plan and implement events and activities to promote positive human relations within their schools.
