New Valve Insertion Technique

On July 1, 2008, the City of Greensboro successfully implemented a new technology to insert a new 12-inch valve into a water line over 50 years old while it operated under pressure. The technique allows replacement of aged, inoperable valves without interrupting service to customers.
Compared to the typical “cut and replace” techniques, installation takes far less time, which significantly reduces water loss and lowers customer inconvenience. The new technology, from Advanced Valve Technologies LLC, of Blue Island, Illinois, is being considered for acquisition by the Water Resources Department.
