Household Hazardous Waste
Residential customers within City of Greensboro limits are charged a quarterly Household Hazardous Waste charge. This charge is based on meter size and helps support the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. The minimum base charge is $0.40 / month.
Solid Waste Collection
Solid Waste Collection charges are for serving commercial dumpsters and are billed in advance.
Water and Sewer
Water use is billed on volume measured through a water meter with one unit equal to 748 gallons. Commercial / industrial water is billed on a flat rate per unit. Residential water is billed on an increasing block rate based on consumption. The tier charge by number of water units consumed is provided on the front of the bill for your convenience. Water rates may vary depending on amount used. Your meter number, meter size and previous and present readings are also on the front of the bill. An "A" besides a reading is for the actual read and an "E" is for an estimated read. Sewer is billed in units based on water usage. Some commercial and industrial accounts are assessed a sewer surcharge.
Water and sewer charges are billed on either a monthly or quarterly basis. The time period covered by your water / sewer charge is noted on the front of your statement under “Previous Read / Present Read.” All water / sewer charges are billed based on current consumption. All other services are billed in advance by the time you receive your bill. Bills may be prorated based on the time of rate changes or the number of days the meter is read.
Past Due Accounts and Other Items
Failure to pay by the due date can eventually lead to a delinquent fee being added to your account and water service being terminated. If a delinquent notice was previously mailed out concerning any past due amount on your bill, then water service may be cut off at anytime until the past due amount plus any penalties are paid. Payments are applied in the following order: delinquent fees, stormwater, household hazardous waste charge, solid waste charge, sewer charge, and water charge. Payments submitted with insufficient postage will not be accepted. There is a $25 processing fee for all returned checks.
