Water Bill Payment Authorization Notice

The City of Greensboro has no contract with any third party payment center to take payments for water utility bills. There may be businesses that advertise they will take utility billing payments on behalf of the City of Greensboro, but these are non-authorized payment locations. Making your payment at these locations may put you at risk of not having your payment applied to your account. Customers who make payments at a non-authorized location should note that the water utility bill is not paid until the City of Greensboro receives the money, which may take several days. Payment options and authorized location information are listed below.

Five  options are available for bill payment:

1.) Pay in Person

Methods of Payment Accepted: Cash, Check, Money Order, Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express). Credit cards are accepted only if payment is made in person. The person whose name is on the card must be present.

2.) Pay by Mail

Methods of Payment Accepted: Credit Card, Check and Money Order

3.) Pay by Bank Draft

Bank drafts are also accepted as payment and require an application to be completed and signed.

4.) Pay by Drop Box

Method of Payment Accepted: Only checks or money orders are accepted. No cash payments may be deposited in the drop box. All payments must include a payment stub to assure proper credit. Drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Payments deposited in the drop box will be posted by 5 pm on the next business day following payment. If your water service has been turned off, you will need to pay your bill in person during normal business hours from 8 am to 5 pm.

A box is located on the exterior wall to the left of the front entrance of the J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center. Another drop box is located at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot Transportation Center 236-C, E. Washington Street, inside the Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) lobby. It is accessible every day between 5:30 am and 11 pm.

5.) Pay Online

Method of Payment: Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) accepted over a secure website.

Please note: Online water payments will show up as a pending payment on your account the same day it is processed. To use this service, you must agree to the User Agreement. Please note that a flat rate convenience fee of $1.95 will be charged to cover additional costs incurred by the City of Greensboro. The amount charged to your credit / debit card will show as one transaction total. For example, if you authorize a payment of $10 plus the $1.95 convenience fee, the total reflected on your card statement will be $11.95.
