Ambient (Dry Weather) Monitoring
The Stormwater Management Ambient Stream Monitoring Program is designed to assess the ambient water quality of streams in the Greensboro area. Ambient refers to the condition of streams during dry weather.
This program identifies and eliminates sources of pollution through data analysis and follow-up investigations. It also helps determine water quality trends over time. Eighteen monitoring sites are strategically located around the city and are sampled bi-monthly. The impacts of pollutants on streams can be determined by comparing the wet weather and dry weather information.
Significant changes in the water quality parameters measured may indicate that a pollution problem exists.
