Air Quality Index (AQI) Report The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a color coded system that represents the quality of air for a specific day. Green days are considered good air days. Red, purple, or maroon days are considered bad air quality days. In addition to using color codes, days are also assigned a numerical value called the air quality index (AQI). The lower the AQI number, the healthier the air that day.

Forsyth County provides updated air quality information every business day on its website. This AQI report is considered valid for Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Davidson, Randolph, Rockingham, Caswell, Davie, and Stokes counties.
The NC Division of Air Quality provides AQI monitoring data for several urban locations in North Carolina, updated every four hours. It can be accessed from its website and by calling 888-AIR-WISE. Reports for Mecklenburg County and Charlotte are not available through the state system. For these reports, call 704-333-7664. Air Now, a cross-agency government site, provides national air quality reports for more than 300 urban locations throughout the country.
