Earth Day, April 22
America Recycles Day, November 15
The cities of Greensboro and High Point, along with Guilford County, will once again sponsor the annual Kids, Cans & Ca$h recycling challenge. The challenge, open to all elementary school children in Guilford County, is held each fall to call attention to America Recycles Day, recognized on November 15 annually.
In the challenge, the three schools that collect the most pounds of clean, dry aluminum cans for recycling during a two-week collection period win special prizes, including a trophy and a pizza party for their school. Each school also gets to keep the money raised from their aluminum cans.
The 2008 Kids, Cans & Ca$h winners were Alamance Elementary School (600+ students), Sedgefield Elementary School (400-599 students), and Madison Elementary School (less than 399 students).
