Remember these annual environmental recognition dates:

Earth Day, April 22

America Recycles Day, November 15
The cities of Greensboro and High Point, along with Guilford County, once again sponsored the annual Kids, Cans & Ca$h recycling challenge. The challenge, open to all elementary school children in Guilford County, is held each fall to call attention to America Recycles Day, recognized on November 15 annually.

In the challenge, the three schools in each category that collects the most pounds of clean, dry aluminum cans during a two-week collection period win special prizes, including a trophy and a pizza party for their school. Each school also gets to keep the money raised from their aluminum cans.

The 2009
Kids, Cans & Ca$h winners are Alamance Elementary School (600+ students) with 494.5 pounds; Sedgefield Elementary School (400-599 students) with 330.8 pounds; and Nathanael Greene Elementary School (less than 399 students) with 818 pounds.
