America Recycles Day, November 15
The Kids, Cans & Ca$h Recycling Challenge is held in recognition of November 15's America Recycles Day. The cities of Greensboro and High Point, along with Guilford County, sponsor the annual challenge, which is open to all elementary schools in Guilford County.

Schools are divided into three categories by size. The school in each category that collects the most pounds of clean, dry aluminum cans, and brings them to the participating materials recovery location during the two-week collection period wins special prizes, including a trophy and a pizza party for their school. Additionally, each school gets to keep the money raised from their aluminum cans. The Challenge ends the Friday before America Recycles Day, and the winning schools are announced the following Monday.

2010 Challenge Winners
399 or fewer students - Nathanael Greene, 634 pounds
400-599 students - Allen Jay, 492 pounds
600+ students - Shadybrook, 57 pounds
