Recycling Dumpster Contamination Contamination occurs when any material that is not on the City's list of recyclable items is placed in your recycling dumpster.
If your recycling dumpster is found to be contaminated, the City will not empty the dumpster until the incorrect items are removed. You may choose to have the City empty the recycling as trash for a charge of $75, or you may remove items yourself.
Once the contamination has been removed from your recycling dumpster, call the Commercial Recycling Helpline at 335-5444. We will verify that these items have been removed and will restart service to your recycling dumpster on the next available service day.
Most dumpsters are contaminated by individuals who do not work or live where the recycling dumpster is being used. However, it is the responsibility of the person or company that has service in their name to resolve the problem, regardless of how or why the contamination took place.
