Eligibility Criteria - Attached Homes
City staff will evaluate attached home communities for service eligibility using the following criteria as described in Chapter 25:
- Adequate space must be available in front of each unit to accommodate two City-provided 90-gallon containers, as well as room for yard waste and bulk trash.
- 90-gallon containers must be placed at the street right-of-way, or the edge of the pavement in a manner accessible to a City automated collection truck.
- Each unit must have an individual driveway, and each driveway must directly connect to the street. Neither City trucks nor City staff will enter driveways to retrieve containers.
- There will be no service in communities that have parking in front of units.
- Private bridge crossings must be reviewed by a certified professional engineer to determine adequate weight limits. An engineer’s certification is required, even if the bridge is currently being used by a private waste hauler.
- Communities with private streets must sign a waiver for potential damage. The Greensboro Department of Transportation does not provide repairs to private roadways.
- Roadways and turning radii must be adequate to accommodate the dimensions of the solid waste collection equipment. If trucks are required to engage in a substantial amount of backing, a community may be deemed ineligible.
- If any portion of the community has elements that would disqualify it from service, the entire community becomes disqualified. For example, if one phase of the development has street parking in front of units, the entire development becomes disqualified from receiving service.
If you think your community may meet the eligibility criteria, ask your property manager to call Sheldon Smith, Solid Waste Collections Division Manager, at (336) 373-4379.
