Street performers and musicians are now allowed to operate on certain downtown streets after they have secured a City privilege license. There is no cost for a business permit, but a criminal background check is required.

Performers interested in applying for a license must submit a completed Privilege License Application online or in person at the City's Collections Division in Room 11, UG level, Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St.

Personal visits to Collections are still required to complete paperwork authorizing the Greensboro Police Department to conduct the background check, which can take up to two weeks to complete. When approved, performers must go to Collections in person to pick up their business permit.

Permitted performers may then perform in groups of as many as five people on parts of Elm, Greene, Davis, Church and Washington streets and Commerce Place from 11 am to 11 pm. Performers must stay away from outdoor dining areas and other street performers. For all rules and regulations, review the City's Code of Ordinances and type "street performers" in the search field.
