Greensboro Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission oversees the historic district program and advises the City Council on historic preservation matters. The Commission reviews applications for a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to properties located in Greensboro's three local historic districts. The Commission relies on the Historic District Program Manual and Design Guidelines to direct its decisions. The Commission also maintains an inventory of the community's historic resources and reviews nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Commission meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 4 pm in the Council Chamber, located on the second floor of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 West Washington St. The commission is a nine-member board appointed by the City Council and must be qualified based on interest or experience in historic preservation, architecture, construction, or related fields. At least one member is appointed from each of the city's three local historic districts.
