For more than 30 years, the Community Development Block Grant program has been a catalyst for steady, dependable, and consistent investment in Greensboro. Since 1974, more than 20 neighborhoods have been revitalized, more than 1,500 homes have been rehabilitated, and 450 new sites have been made available for the construction of affordable housing.

The impact of these programs is far-reaching and affects everyone. Stabilizing and revitalizing neighborhoods reduces the demand for additional public services in crime prevention and health care, as well as the taxes required to support those services. An investment in homes and neighborhoods increases the overall property values of commercial property owners and the value of any personal real estate they own in the community.

Housing development is about economic development. CDBG-funded projects directly benefit the residential and commercial contractors, engineers, and building supply firms involved in new home construction and rehabilitation work. As property values stabilize and rise in targeted neighborhoods, residential and commercial realtors benefit from increased activity. Banks and lenders see an increase in mortgage applications and loan volume.
