Home to more than 1,000 families, Ole Asheboro is one of HCD’s most ambitious neighborhood efforts. Designated in 1979 as part of an even larger revitalization effort encompassing the Arlington Park and Vance areas, Ole Asheboro has seen considerable progress.

Major Accomplishments:

• More than 200 homes rehabilitated
• 130 dilapidated structures removed
• More than 94 new homes built, including the Asheboro Square development
• 13 historic homes rehabilitated and sold
• Caldwell School renovated into Nettie Coad Apartments
• Built Lee Street Daycare Center
• Refurbished Douglas Park
• Developed the Dorothy Brown Park area
• Completed more than five miles of street and utility work
• Completed Martin Luther King Jr. Drive streetscape project
• 59 housing units made lead-safe
• MLK North TN zoning district approved.

Ole Asheboro is now poised to begin an exciting new phase that will see significant development occurring on properties that have been purchased and prepared for development. The Amended Ole Asheboro Redevelopment Plan, adopted in 2004, describes a vision and development strategy for these properties. Development proposals are now being received and reviewed for some of those properties.
