Phillips / Lombardy
Once the site of an old rock quarry, the Phillips / Lombardy neighborhood has replaced the sounds of mining with the sounds of children playing. Deteriorated commercial structures have been removed and the quarry site cleaned. Now the neighborhood is made up of a day care center, new single family homes, and local businesses. In 2003 and 2004, Project Greenleaf (a University of North Carolina at Greensboro program) used a vacant site in the Phillips / Lombardy neighborhood for an immigrant community farming program.
Future development of the rock quarry property is still undetermined. Interested developers should contact us for further information about this site.
Major Accomplishments:
- Relocated two commercial businesses
- Purchased a large vacant tract and cleared trash and overgrowth from the area
- Provided sites for the construction of a private daycare center and the expansion of an auto repair and sales business
- Sold three lots for new single-family homes
- Completed Phase I geotechnical analysis of former rock quarry site.
