Crimemapping.com is Web-based program that shows where 16 categories of crime have occurred in our city. The map is searchable by address, date or type of crime. The software also allows you to create custom reports and set alerts to be notified when crime is reported in your neighborhood. The Greensboro Police Department believes that when you are better informed about what is happening in your neighborhood, you will be more engaged in partnering with us to fight crime.

Overview

To access the crime mapping website the City of Greensboro uses, please read this page and then "Accept" the terms at the bottom of the page. The website was developed to help law enforcement agencies provide you with information about recent crime activity in your neighborhood.

Through the use of this site, crime data from within our city limits is extracted from the Greensboro Police Department's records system, allowing you to view up to 180 days of crime data by various search parameters including date range, crime type or distance from a specific address.

The crime mapping website also allows you to develop queries specific to your interests and request automatic e-mails with crime information updates. The information you request will be illustrated on a map. Various crimes will be depicted by different icons, each containing general details of the incident as well as useful links to other resources, such as crime prevention tips.

All data visualizations on the map are approximate, specific addresses are not available. The crime data represents basic/general data of the incidents based on the FBI's Uniform Crime Report coding system. Mapping data are made available one to two days after a crime report is completed, and therefore may reflect:

  • Information not yet verified by further investigation
  • Information that may include mechanical or human error
  • Preliminary crime classifications that may be changed at a later date based upon further investigation
  • Information not available for mapping

When reviewing the crime data, please understand that:

  • The information represents only police services where a report was made and does not include other calls for police service.
  • The information does not reflect or certify "safe" or "unsafe" areas.
  • Areas with a high volume of foot traffic, vehicle traffic, and if densely populated may have more reported crimes than other areas. This does not necessarily mean more crime occurs there, but that more crime is reported there.
  • Results displayed are not distinguished as attempted or completed crimes.
  • The information will sometimes reflect where the crime was reported versus where the crime occurred.
  • Crime data can change over time. As continuing investigations reveal new facts affecting each case, reported crimes may be reclassified or unfounded, or additional crimes may be disclosed.

You should not rely on nor make decisions or comparisons based solely on the data offered on this website. Always conduct additional independent verification and use due diligence.
