Athletic Facilities

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department operates a wide variety of athletic facilities, including  tournament complexes, fields, tennis courts, and two specialized indoor sports facilities (Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion and the Greensboro Sportsplex).

Carolyn S. Allen Community Park and Athletic Complex / Kernodle Middle School Ballfields

Carolyn S. Allen Community Park Complex features four baseball/softball tournament fields that can be rented for private tournament use March through October on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and for larger special events during the week. The complex features 300-foot fence distances with temporary fencing available for shorter specifications, adjustable base distances suitable for Adult Slow Pitch Softball, Girls Fast Pitch Softball, and Youth Baseball (with portable mounds). Other amenities include bleacher seating, concession stand, press-box tower and picnic shelters just outside the park.

Visitors to Carolyn Allen Park are asked to abide by the following guidelines:

  • Carolyn Allen Park is a smoke-free facility. Smoking inside the park is prohibited.
  • No pets (dogs, cats, etc.) are allowed inside the park past the admissions gate.
  • Coolers brought by spectators can be used at the shelters and in the parking lot, but are not allowed inside the park past the admissions gate.

The Greensboro SportsplexGreensboro Sportsplex

The Greensboro Sportsplex is a multi-sports facility offering basketball, volleyball, soccer, hockey, and other sports programs. This 106,000-square-foot indoor sports complex is located behind the former Carolina Circle Mall, off Highway 29 North. Suspended hardwood floors on eight basketball and volleyball courts offer the premier playing surface for both sports. Four state-of-the-art indoor soccer fields are very popular with local athletes. The facility also has an inline roller hockey rink and an outstanding hockey program for people of all ages.

PavilionSimkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park

The Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion is an indoor multipurpose complex housing four "sport court" combination basketball / volleyball courts, tennis courts and a large meeting room. The multipurpose athletics area and the large meeting room are available for leagues and clinics and may be rented for special events, based on availability. A full-scale tennis program is conducted inside the Sports Pavilion during the fall and winter months and outside at other city tennis centers in the spring and summer.

War Memorial StadiumWar Memorial Stadium

War Memorial Stadium features a tournament-quality baseball field that was previously operated as a professional baseball park, managed by the Greensboro Bats. The stadium is available on a rental basis for tournaments and games. For additional information, contact Austin Homan at 336-412-5799.

Stoner-White Stadium is a state-of-the-art baseball stadium built for tournament play for youth, ages 15-18. Dedicated in 1975, the stadium was the first of its kind in the nation and was partially funded by a Land and Water Conservation grant.
