Whether you're hiking or biking, the Owl’s Roost Trail promises a good workout. Voted the "best urban mountain biking trail" in the country by Bicycling Magazine, in 2003. The dips, twists, turns, and hops on the Owl’s Roost Trail make it a regional favorite for single-track riding. This trail is rugged compared to some of the other watershed trails and is the most technical ride in the system. The additional 1.3 miles of old fire lanes that have been converted to trails add an extra benefit to the trail. It is one of six watershed trails designated as part of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail and is sponsored by the Greensboro Fat Tire Society.

How do I get there?

The north trailhead is accessible through Bur-Mil Park. There is ample parking at the Wildlife Education Center. You can also get to the trail from the Lake Brandt Greenway road side parking lot on Strawberry Rd, then south over the old train trestle bridge toward Bur-Mil Park. The southern trailhead is accessible by way of the Lake Brandt Greenway, south of Owl’s Roost Road and north of the Weaver Bridge.

Owl’s Roost Trail is designed for the enjoyment of mountain bike enthusiasts and hikers. The trail is considered very difficult and has a number of technical features. Cyclists should know their limits and ride only if they know what to expect. Cyclists are asked to yield trail right-of-way to hikers. Please avoid riding after rainfall when the trails are muddy.
