The City's Lead Safe Housing Program is a comprehensive, community-based plan that works to prevent, identify, and control lead-based paint hazards. The program's goal is to create healthy living conditions for low- to moderate-income families with young children.
Lead Hazard Control identifies and controls lead hazards in eligible housing through inspections and risk assessments, lead remediation including interim controls and abatement, and clearance testing.
Community Education and Outreach works to identify and prevent lead hazards, using door-to-door contacts, community education workshops and health fairs, information dissemination, health screenings to test children's blood lead levels, follow-up health care, home visits, presentations and communications to rental property owners and property management companies, and referrals to lead program health and housing partners. Provisions for assisting non-English speaking individuals and families are incorporated into the program.
Job Training and Economic Development helps recruit and train lead professionals, assists with obtaining certifications for trained lead workers and contractors, and helps connect trained workers to lead work opportunities.
Program Evaluation is designed to measure program performance and effectiveness, which will help program partners identify best practices and make adjustments for improvements.
The City of Greensboro has no control over and makes no warranties regarding activities the landlord, management or residents may have taken since testing that might have disturbed lead based paint and / or normal deterioration might have rendered the unit lead contaminated since the test date.
