Review the process for Junk and Abandoned Motor Vehicle Complaints.

Abandoned Motor Vehicles
On public streets or within street right-of-way – A motor vehicle that appears to be abandoned on a public street or within a street right-of-way will be tagged. The owner will have seven days to remove the vehicle. If the vehicle remains unmoved after seven days, it is deemed to be abandoned and an Order to Tow is issued. The order is submitted to a towing company, who will tow the vehicle to an impound facility where the owner may claim the vehicle after paying applicable fines and towing/storage fees.

On private property – If a motor vehicle appears to be abandoned on private property, the owner of the property may submit a Vehicle Release Form, granting authority to the City to remove the vehicle. An inspector will review the release form for validity and then issue an Order to Tow. The order is submitted to a towing company, who will tow the vehicle to an impound facility where the owner may claim the vehicle after paying applicable fines and towing/storage fees.

Junk Motor Vehicles
On private property – Any motor vehicle on private property is required to have a valid license tag issued for that vehicle or be able to move under its own power in both forward and reverse. Any motor vehicle on private property without a valid license tag and that does not operate, is deemed to be in violation of the City’s Ordinance for Junk and Abandoned Motor Vehicles and will be tagged by an inspector. The owner will have seven days to bring the vehicle into compliance. If, after 10 days, the vehicle has not been brought into compliance, an Order to Tow is issued. The order is submitted to a towing company, who will tow the vehicle to an impound facility where the owner may claim the vehicle after paying applicable fines and towing/storage fees. This does not apply to vehicles stored within an enclosed structure.
