At the Greensboro Police Department (GPD), we believe the best way for us to learn about each other and solve problems together is to create personal connections through face-to-face dialogue.

That is why we offer many ways for you to learn more about your police department and for us to learn more about you. We encourage you to get involved in our many community programs. You can choose the one that works best for your interests and schedule or you can participate in several programs.

Here are a few of the programs we offer.

One of the best ways community members can become actively engaged with GPD is through the Community Watch Program. Community Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of residents, in cooperation with law enforcement, to reduce crime and victimization in communities. To start one, simply contact your Community Resource Officer (CRO).

ride-alongsTo understand what our officers do during a shift, sign up for a Ride-Along. This experience will give you an inside look at police work during a six-hour shift.

You may also request an officer speak with your school, civic group, business, or faith organization.

To get an in-depth understanding of GPD, we invite you to participate in GPD’s Police Citizens’ Academy, which is held annually from February through August. It consists of 14 scheduled classroom discussions, two partnership sessions, ride-alongs with police officers, and hands-on demonstrations.

Come back to this Web page frequently to find out what else we have planned. You may also follow us on Facebook and join Nextdoor to keep up-to-date on community outreach events. And, we offer several ways you can connect with us and we always have a lot going on. Come join us!
