On October 11, 2006, the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) adopted the Greensboro Urban Area Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenway Master Plan (BiPed Plan), after considering comments received during the public review period. The full plan is more than 300 pages, so GDOT has created a shorter version  containing the plan's key findings, accompanied by selected maps. The full document -- chapters and appendices -- and other useful links are listed below.

The plan builds on the goals of the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan for the MPO area, as well as local plans and policies, such as the City of Greensboro Walkability Policy, the Connections 2025 Comprehensive Plan, and the land use plans of the Guilford County and the towns of Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, and Summerfield.

The plan merged two initially independent efforts: 1) the Trails and Greenways Master Plan (on behalf of the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department and funded through a grant from the Moses Cone-Wesley Long Community Health Foundation to Action Greensboro); and 2) an area-wide Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan conducted by and funded through the MPO.

MPO staff prepared and distributed BiPed Plan materials to Guilford County and the towns within the MPO area for their information in considering endorsement of the plan. The materials now serve as a general resource for all interested parties.

Plan Adoption by MPO Area Governments:

Greensboro City Council - December 19, 2006
Guilford County Board of Commissioners - June 7, 2007
Oak Ridge Town Council - January 8, 2008
