Index to Individuals Present at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (March 15, 1781)

Guilford Court House HorseThe 250 individuals listed here (249 men and one woman) fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse or provided some service to Greene’s forces for the battle. They represent only a fraction of the estimated 4,400-4,500 people who were present on Greene’s side.

This information comes from a 3”x5” index card file in the library (probably created around the 1950s). It was most likely created using sources in the library, supplemented by records from a local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It does not contain information from works published after the card files were made.

One such source is North Carolina Biographical Sketches of Soldiers and Patriots in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which lists about 500 men (and a few women) and is available in the library along with most of the other sources listed in this index. No comprehensive list of all participants in the battle is known to exist.
