The Gillespie Golf Course project used natural stream design to restore about 2,877 linear feet of stream for the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program. The project was required to work within an existing golf course. The project involved designing a new stream channel and planting new vegetation to stabilize the stream banks.

The restored stream was integrated into the design of the golf course. The same stones that were used to restore the stream bed were also used as stepping stones to help golfers retrieve wayward shots. The construction was completed in 2003 and will be monitored for five years to ensure the success of the restoration effort.
