Officer J.T. Lance was sworn in as a Greensboro Police Officer on April 16, 2007 and is currently serving as a School Resource Officer (SRO). He takes the position very seriously by:
Investigating criminal activities occurring on school property
Counseling students as needed or requested by school officials or parents
Participating in campus activities, student organizations and athletic events
Improving the image of uniformed law enforcement officers in the eyes of students and the community.
Even with all these obligations, Lance still recognizes that students need individualized attention. "If I can reach one student while I am an SRO, I feel that I have made a difference in that student's life and in the community," he says. Lance adds that he shows students the right door so they can open that door of opportunity for themselves, making their own lives more successful.
According to Lance, crime prevention begins in the home. "We can't let our kids be raised by the justice system," he says. "If that happens, it could be too late for crime prevention." So, he advises parents to be active participants in the lives of their children.
