GTA Establishes New Discount Fares for Military Veterans
Posted Date: 11/9/2017 10:00 AM
In recognition of Veterans’ Day, Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) is honoring those who serve and have served in the armed forces with new year-round discount fares on GTA and HEAT buses. The new fare rate is half off the regular fare prices.

To purchase and use the discount, veterans must obtain a free veterans’ identification card at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot ID Office, 236-C E. Washington St. To do this, veterans must provide proof of veteran/active military status by showing any of the following identification cards:
  • Active Military Identification Card (DD-214)
  • US Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs Identification Card
  • County issued Veteran Identification Card
  • NC or other state driver’s license with official veteran endorsement.

The GTA ID office is open from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesdays and from 1-4 pm on Thursday and Fridays. Questions? Contact GTA Customer Service at 336-335-6499.

“GTA has long supported the needs of our veterans, enabling them to access healthcare, employment, education, or any of the quality of life services that they fought so hard to protect,” says Kevin Elwood, GTA marketing and communications manager. “This year, the GTA Board wanted to make that support tangible in the form of a transit discount for those when most need it. It’s another way to simply say ‘Thank you for your service.'”
