A public groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of Greensboro’s newest recreational facility, Hilltop Park and Recreation Center, 5301 Hilltop Rd., is slated for 2 pm Sunday, August 19.

Phase I construction includes a 15,000 sq. ft. recreation center with a gymnasium, fitness center, multipurpose rooms, locker rooms and parking. Future phases include an outdoor skate park and an indoor rock climbing wall. The master plan also includes picnic shelters, walking trails, dog park, sprayground, and multipurpose athletic fields.

In the planning stages since 2006, this 48-acre park is the result of extensive public input and funding provided by a recreational bond in November 2000. The Inland Construction Company Inc. will oversee the park development. Lead design consultant is Corley Redfoot Architects Inc.
