Posted Date: 9/23/2013

In conjunction with Gill Boatworks, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a boat building class where participants will construct 15-foot wooden Carolina Canoes over the course of five weeks. The classes are from 5:30-8:30 pm on Wednesdays, October 16, 23, 30, and November 6 and 13. A launch party will be from 9 am to 12 noon on Saturday, November 16. All classes and the launch party are at the Lake Brandt Marina, 5945 Lake Brandt Rd.

Attendees are provided blueprints, pre-cut wood, nails, screws, safety glasses, work gloves, hand tools, primer, paint, and varnish to construct a water-worthy boat, under the supervision of an instructor. The class is limited to six boats with up to three students per vessel. Families are encouraged to join the class and build the boat together. Children 9-17 must participate with an adult. The cost for each boat is $700.
