In response to a request from Texas emergency officials, NC Emergency Management has deployed 18 members of the Greensboro Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team to assist with search and rescue efforts in Texas.
The City employees will use small boats and other equipment to rescue people from flooded homes and others stranded by floodwaters in precarious locations. These personnel will be working as part of a 92 person team from NC. The team of firefighters left Greensboro at 7:30 am Thursday, August 31, and should return to Greensboro September 9.
The Greensboro Fire Department also received a request from the International Association of Firefighters to send two Peer Support Team personnel to Houston. These people will be deployed to visit members at every Houston Fire Department station to address mental health concerns and needs. These two City employees will leave Greensboro September 3 and return on September 9 also, and will work with other Peer Support teams from New York, Kansas City, Boston, and Phoenix fire departments.
