National Trails Day Festival is part of a nationwide event organized by the American Hiking Society. This festival is a family-friendly, dog-friendly, and free for all ages. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic
blankets and settle in for the day. Enjoy guided hikes, mountain bike rides, kayak demos, live music, food trucks, and a free raffle! See full event schedule below.

Green Living Expo
from 10 am to 1 pm with live music by the Zinc Kings

This festival favorite  features diverse and interactive exhibits and
vendors that provide information on the latest happenings on and
around Greensboro's trails, wildlife, health benefits of trails and
healthy lifestyles, and fun to be had in the great outdoors. Be sure
to get a free ticket when you arrive for a chance to win great raffle
prizes donated by many local and national sponsors.

7:30 am 
Long Hike
An eight-mile guided hike, sponsored by the Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club. Experience the beautiful watershed trails and greenways.
It ends at back at the park around 11:30 am. Wear appropriate shoes
and bring water and a light snack. Meet in the parking lot at Jaycee Park on the south side of Country Park.

8 am
Running Workshop

Join Liz Lindsay of Janes on the Run to learn the basic training principles of running form, cadence and stride, intensity, and heart rate. Meeting place TBA.

8:30 am
Structured Running Session

Learn proper warm-up and form drills with Liz Lindsay of Janes on the Run and get help gauging your personal running with a group run of up
to three miles. Meeting place TBA.

9 am 
Guided Nature Bike Ride
Grab your bike and join in on an easy, slow-paced bike ride lead by Moni Bates, a local botanist and Greensboro Fat Tire Society member, to explore the flora and fauna of the forest. Meet at the Bike Parking Area near the main stage.

9:30 am 
Water Rescues Kayak Demonstration
City Lakes staff demo various advance kayak moves and rescues such as wet exits, t-rescues, rolls, and more. Meet lake-side north of the main stage.

Kayak Demos with Greensboro Parks and Recreation

Kayaks will be available on Country Park's south pond  for you to enjoy a quick "test drive" experience. This is a safe activity for adults and children ages 10 and up. Meet lake-side north of the main stage.

10:15 am 
Basic Bike Maintenance with REI

Routine maintenace on your bike can keep you riding smooth. Join REI for an intro to how to care for you bike and prolong its life.  Meet at the REI Tent.
Wild TurkeyFitness Clinic with the Traverse Trainer
Experience a 30 minute workout and be challenged, have fun, and start your day 200-400 calories lighter! Learn new dynamic exercises that work your entire body, circuit train, do plyometrics, balance work, and core work to get your heart rate up! Meeting place TBA.

10:30 am 
Group Mountain Bike Rides 
 
Bring your mountain bike to National Trails Day to participate in a guided ride. Bike rides for beginners, intermediate, and advanced riders available and hosted by Greensboro Fat Tire Society. Meet at the Bike Parking area near the main stage.
Herding Dog Demonstration
Learn about herding dogs with Laurie Shultz and Findley Vue Farm. Trained dogs will herd ducks through a course to demonstrate the sport of herding. Meeting place TBA.

10:45 am
Bird Walk with Piedmont Bird Club

On this 20-minute, family friendly walk around the park, the Piedmont Bird Club will help you listen, watch for, and identify many of the birds that call Country Park home. Meeting place TBA.

Osprey11:15 am
Geocaching with REI
In this family friendly class, learn to use a GPS to navigate to waypoints and find hidden treasures. Meet at the REI Tent.

11:30 am
Herding Dog Demonstration
Learn about herding dogs with Laurie Shultz and Findley Vue Farm. Trained dogs will herd ducks through a course to demonstrate the sport of herding. Meeting place TBA.

11:45 am
Fitness Clinic with the Traverse Trainer
Experience a 30 minute workout and be challenged, have fun, and start your day 200-400 calories lighter! Learn new dynamic exercises that work your entire body, circuit train, do plyometrics, balance work, and core work to get your heart rate up! Meeting place TBA.

12 noon
Zone Ride Clinic 

Learn some new skills or brush up on the old in this pump-and-jump clinic at the Zone Bike Park lead by Greensboro Fat Tire Society. Meet at the Re:Cycles Tent at the Zone Bike Park.

National Trails Day 212:15 pm
Leave No Trace Class with REI
How long does our trash stick around? How do we minimize our impact? Come to this family friendly class to play games and learn about taking care of our earth while having fun outside. Meet at the REI Tent.

12:45 pm
Raffle
Bring your tickets to the main stage area for the raffle. Ticket holders must be present to win. Prizes donated by event sponsors and venders. Raffle items include 1-night stay at the Proximity Hotel, 1-month pass to Adult Training Class at Proehlific Park, weekend gear rental package from REI, plus lots more! 

2 pm 
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at MST Richardson-Taylor Preserve 
 
Continue the trails celebration at the opening of the Mountains to Sea Trail Richardson-Taylor Preserve off Plainfield Road just minutes from Country Park. Friends of MST will be on hand to share information about MST and allow trail goers to explore the new preserve.
