West Friendly Avenue-Guilford College Area
News and Updates
The West Friendly Avenue-Guilford College began a Strategic Planning Process in fall 2013.
A crucial step is to recruit residents to serve on the Steering Committee, which is a smaller group of neighborhood residents who represent a diverse cross-section of the area. The Steering Committee's role is to help advise City staff during the process and to make sure all residents are represented. Public participation of neighbors and stakeholders enable the community to take a full and active role in the process and is key to a successful plan.

Strategic Planning Information
Safe, attractive and welcoming neighborhoods make life better for everyone living in them, and a network of great neighborhoods will make Greensboro a better place to live, work, and play for all. Quality neighborhoods do not happen overnight; they are created through an intentional process with active participation and involvement from the community. Neighborhood planning can provide a means for neighborhoods to:
Identify, preserve and build on the positive qualities of neighborhoods
Acknowledge and deal with existing issues or problems
Set goals and priorities that will shape the future of the area in the years to come.
A neighborhood plan may become a policy document that provides guidance to City officials and staff about decisions in a neighborhood. When more than one neighborhood is involved or if a plan covers a larger geographical area, it is often referred to as a strategic plan. The scope of a strategic plan is larger and it may go into less detail, but the planning process is essentially the same.
