The Steelman Park Streambank Restoration Project will enhance and stabilize eroding streambanks. This will improve water quality and the stream itself within the park as well as protect park infrastructure. The project, which is a collaborative effort initiated by the City's Water Resources and Parks and Recreation departments, is in the design phase.
Construction is scheduled to start in fall 2017 with completion by spring 2018. As a component of the project, vegetation will be planted along the streambanks. Typically, it takes three growing seasons for vegetation to become completely established and evident.
Restoration will be done on the section of stream between Highland Avenue and Gregory Street, as well as the northern branch near Haywood Street.
