A limited number of communities must provide their own trash can for manual trash collection.
When the City switched to automated collection, some communities could not receive automated service. Narrow streets or parking issues did not allow the automated trucks to collect trash safely. As a result, these communities were grandfathered and continued to receive manual collection. However, all newly constructed communities that wish to receive City trash service must be able to be automated; the City is not expanding its manual collection areas.
In the existing neighborhoods that were approved for manual collection, residents must provide their own 32-gallon trash can. Cans should have handles and lids. When filled with trash, cans should weigh less than 50 pounds.
The City will provide plastic green recycling bags for residents in these communities. If you need additional recycling bags, call 373-CITY (2489). Bags are not available for pickup at Melvin Municipal Office Building (City Hall).
