It is illegal to burn within the City of Greensboro limits, without a permit, the following items:

• Wire
• Paper & cardboard
• Plastics
• Heavy oils
• Paints
• Household chemicals
• Leaves and/or compost (where pick up is provided)
• Tires or other rubber items
• Treated, painted or finished wood
• Garbage
• Asphalt materials
• Building materials (especially asbestos)
• Industrial chemicals

By obtaining a burning permit, you are allowed to burn certain items, under certain conditions. For more information and how to obtain a permit, please download the application. After submission, call the Fire & Life Safety Division at 336-373-2177 for approval over the phone. Contractors may print and complete the application, and bring it with the permit fee of $35 to the Fire & Life Safety Division, 1512 North Church Street.

Underground Tank Removal or Abandonment Permit
Permits for tank removal or abandonment are obtained by printing an application from this site. Complete the application and bring it with the permit fee of $100 per tank to the Fire & Life Safety Division, 1512 North Church Street.

Blasting Permit
Permits to conduct blasting are obtained by printing an application from this site. Complete the application and bring it with the permit fee of $125 for 30 days or $200 for 90 days to the Fire & Life Safety Division, 1512 North Church Street. Please read the permit document for requirements and conditions.

Festival Permits and Guidelines
