The genealogy collection at Greensboro Public Libraries is particularly strong for research in Guilford and neighboring counties. We also collect materials for all of North Carolina and other states based on migration patterns to and from NC.
- Eastern NC - Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts and other locations were the primary sources of migration.
- Western NC - Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee were the primary destinations.
The collection includes print and microfilm materials. We have how-to books/methodologies, directories, family histories and genealogical records. Genealogical records are organized alphabetically - first by state, then by county.
We have published genealogies, pedigree charts of the Guilford County Genealogical Society, NC biography file composed mostly of newspaper clippings and family history information, and papers and research of Ray Donnell who is a researcher for both the Guilford and Alamance genealogical societies.
We also have numerous records on microfilm for Guilford and all neighboring and parent counties, including Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Forsyth, Orange, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes and Surry counties.
