City of Greensboro Announces Holiday Closings

City offices are closed on Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26, Wednesday, December 27, as well as Monday, January 1, 2018 for the holidays. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:

• Trash and recycling collections on Monday, December 25 take place on Tuesday, December 26, and Tuesday’s take place on Wednesday, December 27.

There are also no trash and recycling collections on Monday, January 1, 2018. Monday’s collection will take place on Tuesday, January 2 and Tuesday’s take place on Wednesday, January 3.

• The White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1, 2018.

• The Greensboro Public Library system and the Greensboro History Museum will be closed Monday, December 25 through Wednesday, December 27, as well as Monday, January 1, 2018.

• Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) is operating on the following schedule for the holidays:

  • Saturday, December 23 – normal service 
  •  Sunday, December 24 – normal hourly service ending early at 6 pm for GTA/SCAT
  •  Monday, December 25 – no service for GTA/SCAT
  •  Tuesday, December 26 – normal service 
  •  Sunday, December 31 – normal hourly service ending early at 6 pm for GTA/SCAT 
  •  Monday, January 1, 2018 – no service for GTA/SCAT
  •  Tuesday, January 2, 2018 – normal service

HEAT will not operate during the entire holiday period. The GTA Administrative offices are closed Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26, Wednesday, December 27, and Monday, January 1.


• Parks and Recreation administrative offices, parks and facilities are operating on an altered holiday schedule. Visit the Parks and Recreation Holiday Schedule webpage to see the complete listing.

• Emergency service is available for water and sewer needs after normal business hours and on weekends. Water customers can call 336-373-2489 (CITY) to report water or sewer problems. After placing the call, please follow the prompts to connect to the Water Resources dispatcher.
