Phase II of TZ Osborne Expansion Completed on Schedule
Phase II construction of the TZ Osborne Water Reclamation Facility Expansion was completed on schedule on December 31 by Haren Construction. Phase II is a critical part of the four-phase expansion project and consists of construction of new sewage treatment areas that allow the City to add two million gallons per day of sewage treatment capacity to the plant.
The Osborne facility had been processing up to 20 million gallons of sewage per day. Phase II construction provides for an additional 10 percent in treatment capacity per day. This increased amount allows officials to end some restrictions on sewer-line extensions for new construction that were instituted in May, 1998.
The entire four-phase project was begun in April of 1995 and is currently scheduled to be completed in late 2000. It will ultimately increase the plant's sewage treatment capacity to 30 million gallons per day. Haren Construction serves as primary contractor for the project, having taken it over from MCI Constructors, the original contractor, in July 1998.
Allan Williams, Water Resources Director, noted that he is very pleased with the efficiency and quality of work on Phase II.
"The completion of Phase II on this projectis a tremendous achievement," he said. "The additional two million gallons of sewage treatment capacity allows the City to again authorize sewer system extensions throughout Greensboro. Haren Construction has met or exceeded every deadline that has been set and we look forward to that continuing during the final phases of this project."
