Greensboro to Get a Spring Cleaning Through the Great American Cleanup
Tired of seeing litter and trash scattered around our community – in our parks, streams, and collecting on city streets and thoroughfares? You can help be a part of the solution by registering now for the Great American Cleanup which is scheduled for Saturday, April 10.
Formerly the GLAD Bag-A-Thon, the Great American Cleanup is organized locally by Greensboro Beautiful, Inc. a volunteer organization, working in partnership with the City of Greensboro’s Parks & Recreation Department and Solid Waste Management Division. Keep America Beautiful affiliates and volunteers nationwide are supporting the Great American Cleanup to reduce litter on public properties. Last year, hundreds of volunteers and school children participated in cleanup activities in and around Greensboro. Organizers are asking volunteers to register now through April 1 and agree to pickup litter at sites throughout our community in need of attention. Families, church groups, schools, community organizations, businesses, scout troops or clubs are encouraged to be a part of Greensboro’s "spring cleaning".
Cleanup activities will be held from 9 am to 12 noon on April 10. Trash and recyclables collected can be delivered from 11:30 am – 1 pm to the parking lot at War Memorial Stadium at the corner of Lindsay and Yanceyville Street downtown. (Tires, appliances, and yard waste/storm debris will not be accepted.) Pizza and drinks will be available. Cleanup sites may include neighborhoods, parks, streets, schools, neighborhood Streams, playgrounds, intersections, vacant lots, or anywhere litter has accumulated. Bags and gloves will be provided by Greensboro Beautiful. For more information call 373-2199.
