Emergency Management Urges Citizens to Continue Winter Weather Preparedness

Greensboro - Guilford County Emergency Management Coordinators are urging all citizens to review their home emergency plans before this weekend. These plans should include ways to deal with possible power outages, methods to contact family members, and emergency supplies. Supplies should be enough to last for at least three days and include:

  • One gallon of water per person per day
  • Non-perishable food
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Battery-operated radio and extra batteries
  • Prescription medications
  • Baby formula and diapers
  • Warm clothing and blankets
  • Non-electric can opener
  • Pet food
  • Other supplies as needed

Emergency Management staff members Marilyn Braun and Steve Marks stress that with the potential for another significant winter weather event this weekend, everyone should act now to practice their plan and ensure that supply kits are intact. Gathering these items in advance can make it much safer and easier to weather another storm. They also remind individuals to check on neighbors to ensure their well-being.
